History
The Old Red Lion, Tetsworth, is situated on an ancient road leading from the nation’s capital towards the ‘Cross Roads of England’ – Oxford. It is estimated that Tetsworth’s first inhabitants date as far back as the third century. The well kept village green fronts the Old Red Lion providing an easy viewing of hazy summer cricket days and frosty winter football. The green also provides a large enclosed play area for children to play while parents can have a quiet drink. The red lions refurbishment was complete in 2004, doubling the size of the bar area and creating two new eating areas, under the restaurant name ‘Nemards’. The cellar, the eating area behind the bar is ideal for both lunches and candlelit dinners. The library, given its name by the book lined walls is secluded and ambient, set away from the rest of the pub. Up to forty people can dine in this part of the restaurant, the largest table seating fourteen guests. Therefore it is ideal for functions such as wedding receptions, family gatherings and private parties. The Red Lion also provides live music nights in the bar area, such as a live blues and jazz band and various solo artists. This provides a great atmosphere as well as entertainment for all present. Finally, the magic of the Old Red Lion emanates from the welcoming atmosphere of the building itself and the character of the various members of staff. It is no wonder that it is frequently alive and buzzing with both village locals and passers through alike.
